The first-ever World Poker Tour (WPT) Prime Vietnam, underway at the Crown Poker Club, Hanoi since May 19 has begun proceedings with the showstopper tourney – the VND 25 Million buy-in WPT Prime Main Event. Over the past two days, two of the event’s starting flights have already run course. With Day 1A logging in 145 entries, and Day 1B bringing in another 242 entries, the VND 8 Billion GTD Main Event has already drawn 387 players and looks well on track to create a new attendance record, while breaching the guarantee!
After two starting flights, a total of 48 players (Day 1A – 18, Day 1B – 30) have made the cut for Day 2, and leading the pack is the Day 1A chip leader, Vietnam’s Trung Van Nguyen (864,000), with Day 1B chip leader Anh Duy Pham (726,000) being the next top stack.
Team India flocked the Main Event in big numbers and PokerGuru Ambassador Laksh Pal Singh (702,000) bagged the second-biggest stack on Day 1A.
Currently placed #6 on the domestic annual online leaderboard, Singh is a former IOPC – The Crown champion. He came close to clinching a WPT trophy in the 2019 WPT Vietnam when he posted FT scores in Event #1: Kickoff, and Event #2: Main Event Warm Up. Singh has already cashed out twice at the ongoing series, placing 13th in Event #11: 8-Max Main Event Warm Up, and 23rd in Event #14: Megastack.
As the third-biggest stack among the 48 Day 1A and Day 1B survivors, Singh is well on the hunt for his first-ever WPT title.
The Indian contingent was dominant on Day 1A, and apart from Singh, two other Indians, the former banker Kunal Patni (304,000) and long-time circuit regular Jasven Saigal (260,000) are the other top stacks from Day 1A.
Another three Indians – the 2019 WPT India Main Event champion, PokerGuru Ambassador Ashish Munot (254,000), Young Gun Gaurav Sood (177,000), and Event #15 champion Aditya Sushant (150,000) made it from Day 1B, bringing the total count of Indians who have qualified for Day 2 to six.
MPL Poker Team Pro Dhaval Mudgal entered both Day 1A and Day 1B but was unable to bag a stack for Day 2.
The series is now on the home stretch, with only two more days to go. The third and final starting flight will run from 11 AM (local time) today, May 28. While we’re awaiting results of the two-day Event #17: Super High Roller, and Event 19: NLHE Freezeout, Event #20: Tag Teams Freezeout is also slated to run today.
